World of Documentary

Spontaneous, unrehearsed, but by no means merely accidental: A great documentary is like a block of marble, quarried from real life, shaped and sculpted by editing into a work of art, the consequence less of imagination than of shrewd choice, intelligent analysis, patient self effacing observation, great technical skill, and above all, an abiding knowledge of and respect for human beings.
Bob Connolly, 1997.

The international world of documentary is rich and exciting. The issues that motivate filmmakers to document social, community and environmental conditions also drive social change philanthropy. Documentary captures the lives, struggles, celebrations and creativity of real people of diverse cultures to tell stories many of us may not normally encounter.

These pages contain links to production companies making a difference, organizations promoting documentary, foundations that fund documentaries, film festivals and the local Australian film funding landscape. What links them all is an interest in finding new ways to connect to audiences, to educate generations and build partnerships with like minded organizations. Documentary filmmaking is a collaborative venture towards creating a more informed and compassionate society.
