A Comic Affair

A Comic Affair

Synopsis

They’re all about superheroes, they’re only for children, they’re just cartoons... these are ideas commonly associated with the oft maligned and usually misunderstood world of comic books. The phrase ‘comic book’ is widely used to describe something larger than life or removed from reality. A habit that does little justice to the breadth of artistic ideas and potential found in the medium today.

A Comic Affair is a documentary about finding the heart of comic book culture; going behind popular perceptions of comics and telling the story of the creators and fans that make the industry what it is.

This story is about not only how comic book creators have made their careers but what drives them to want to be a part of this industry, each answering in their own way the question 'Why comics?' It is also the story of creators with aspirations of a career, those who are trying to gain a foothold in American comics from as far away as Canberra, Australia.
Most importantly A Comic Affair is the story of what comics can and do mean both to the people involved in their creation and as a significant form of artistic expression.

This is a story told not only in creators own words but through the eyes of a group of Australians going in search of answers to these questions, first in their own backyard and then across the face of comic book culture in America. This is a journey of understanding the art form. And of finding new words to associate with this medium.
