We’re very proud to announce that the winner of our 2017 DAF Award for Australian Documentary is ‘The Pink House’, a film by Sascha Ettinger Epstein and Claire Haywood! The DAF award recognises excellence in Australian documentary production, and we were thrilled to present it to Sascha and Claire at the Sydney Film Festival closing night ceremony on June 18.
Telling the story of the last brothel in the old mining town of Kalgoorlie, ‘The Pink House’ was filmed over several years, with the filmmakers granted unprecedented access to the inner workings of this unique establishment. Seen through the eyes of whimsical brothel owner Madam Carmel and long-serving lady of the night BJ, this documentary is an intimate portrait of two women bound together not only by the past, but by their precarious future.
Congratulations again to Sascha and Claire on this fantastic film and their well-deserved win!
