StoryWorks
SOCIAL IMPACT STORYTELLING FOR EARLY CAREER FILMMAKERS
We are very excited to launch StoryWorks, a new skills development program on social impact storytelling for early career documentary filmmakers in Melbourne.

Do you have a strong documentary project with a clear impact goal? Or a background in the social sector, campaigning or storytelling with the desire to use these skills for documentary filmmaking?
StoryWorks will support documentary filmmakers to have a better understanding of the impact that their stories have on the world. It will teach them how to surround documentary storytelling with philanthropic, social and corporate sector partnerships and how to build social impact strategies around their films.

“These masterclasses teach skills that are not usually taught within filmmaking courses but are essential when working in social impact documentary.”

Many young early career professionals are driven by social aims and objectives and some may already understand campaign and advocacy work. Applying this to the world of documentary and strategically using the documentary as the core of the campaign is what this program is about.

The program will also encourage early career filmmakers to be entrepreneurial and innovative in shaping their ideas creatively and thinking laterally about attracting partners.

The program includes two face-to-face masterclasses alongside self-paced online learning that students will have access to throughout the year.

Presented by Documentary Australia Foundation CEO, Dr Mitzi Goldman, and Impact & Education Director, Katie Barry, who will share their sector knowledge, hints and tips, clips and case studies with participants to enhance knowledge and skills.

Industry guest speakers will also be invited to share their experiences in funding and partnering with social impact documentaries and their impact campaigns.
